Skye Air Mobility has taken a groundbreaking step by launching India’s first all-women drone delivery team, setting a new benchmark in logistics. The company introduced this initiative in Gurugram, where a dedicated team of ten female drone pilots and Skye Walkers successfully executed seamless deliveries of essential goods. These deliveries included medicines, groceries, and electronics, proving that women can lead innovations in drone-based logistics.

Promoting Gender Inclusivity in Drone Operations

Recognizing the need for diversity in the logistics sector, Skye Air Mobility has pledged to train 500 women pilots and Skye Walkers over the next two years. This ambitious training program will provide women with expertise in drone operations, last-mile logistics, and delivery management. By equipping them with essential skills, the initiative aims to foster gender inclusivity and financial independence for women in the rapidly evolving logistics industry.

A Growing Trend of Female Drone Operators

The rise of women in drone aviation is not limited to India; it aligns with a global trend of increasing female representation in the industry. In the United States, the number of women holding an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate nearly doubled, growing from 3.9% in 2016 to 6.7% in 2019. Skye Air Mobility’s efforts will further accelerate this trend by encouraging more women to enter the drone delivery space and take on leadership roles in the logistics sector.

Urban Logistics is Rapidly Evolving

As cities continue to embrace drone technology, the demand for quick and efficient delivery solutions has surged. In February 2025 alone, Gurugram recorded approximately 1.5 lakh drone deliveries, highlighting the growing reliance on automated logistics. These deliveries included high-value items such as iPhones and everyday necessities like groceries, reaching customers in under seven minutes. With rapid urbanization and increasing e-commerce demands, drone-based logistics will play a crucial role in reshaping last-mile delivery networks.

Skye Air Mobility’s Vision for the Future

Ankit Kumar, the Founder and CEO of Skye Air Mobility, emphasized that inclusivity remains crucial for the future of innovation in logistics. By training more women in drone operations, the company aims to create a workforce that reflects diversity and technological advancement. Encouraging women to take up roles in drone logistics will not only bridge gender gaps but also contribute to a more efficient and automated delivery system.

India’s Drone Technology is Expanding

The introduction of an all-women drone delivery team marks a significant milestone in India’s logistics evolution. The country has already witnessed remarkable advancements in drone-based transportation for both urban and rural last-mile deliveries. In July 2024, logistics giant DTDC partnered with Skye Air Mobility to launch drone-based delivery services, further proving the industry’s commitment to automation and faster logistics solutions. The continued adoption of drone technology will provide new career opportunities for women while ensuring quicker and more reliable deliveries.

Opportunities for Women in Drone Logistics

As India embraces drone technology, the demand for skilled pilots is expected to rise significantly. Women entering the field will benefit from expanding career opportunities and financial independence. By supporting female participation in logistics, companies like Skye Air Mobility are ensuring a more inclusive and technologically advanced industry. The shift towards drone-based logistics will continue to reshape supply chains, making last-mile deliveries faster, more efficient, and widely accessible.

Conclusion: A Game-Changer for Women in Tech

Skye Air Mobility’s launch of an all-women drone delivery team signifies a transformative moment in India’s logistics sector. The initiative not only empowers women but also strengthens the country’s logistics network with efficient, technology-driven solutions. With increasing reliance on drones for e-commerce and essential goods, the future of logistics is poised for a revolution—one that actively includes women at the forefront of innovation.
