In a landmark move, India has begun constructing its largest integrated multimodal cargo hub at the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. With strategic planning and focused investments, this ambitious project is poised to revolutionize India’s air cargo landscape and position the country as a major global logistics player.

The hub will provide a seamless link between air, road, rail, and inland water transport, boosting supply chain efficiencies across multiple sectors. Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS), a joint venture between Tata Group’s Air India and Singapore’s SATS Ltd., will develop and operate this world-class facility. The Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a Zurich Airport-led entity, has awarded the concession to AISATS for design, financing, construction, and management of the hub.

This project, covering 87 acres, marks a significant step in India’s ambition to become a logistics powerhouse by facilitating faster, more efficient cargo movement.

Key Infrastructure: Building a World-Class Cargo Hub

AISATS plans to build the Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT), which will handle both international and domestic cargo, including time-sensitive and temperature-controlled goods. The ICT will include a dedicated express terminal for courier shipments and a Coolport facility for perishable items like food, pharmaceuticals, and flowers.

Furthermore, the project will feature the Integrated Warehousing and Logistics Zone (IWLZ). A comprehensive ecosystem catering to a wide range of logistics players. The IWLZ will host Business Unit Processing (BUP) facilities, consolidation centers for freight forwarders. And customs-bonded warehouses for international cargo processing.

Adding to this, the logistics zone will also accommodate third-party logistics providers. E-commerce distribution centers, and a trucking center equipped with essential amenities for drivers. With such robust infrastructure in place. The cargo hub will eliminate bottlenecks and reduce turnaround times, significantly enhancing supply chain performance.

Strengthening India’s Global Trade Connectivity

By integrating multimodal transport options. The cargo hub will drastically improve connectivity between production zones, consumption centers, and international trade routes. This initiative will especially benefit Uttar Pradesh’s One District One Product (ODOP) program, agro-industrial clusters, and MSME exporters.

Additionally, the hub aligns with the vision of the India-UAE-Europe Economic Corridor, offering exporters direct access to the Middle East and Europe. The facility’s proximity to the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Dedicated Freight Corridors ensures smooth cargo flow and greater reliability for businesses. These connections will open new avenues for Indian exporters and contribute significantly to the country’s export growth strategy.

Timeline and Investment: Delivering Results with Speed

Construction of the cargo hub has already commenced. With an initial investment of ₹1,200 crore, of which ₹456 crore has been deployed. Authorities expect the facility to become operational in sync with the inauguration of the Noida International Airport. Once fully operational, the cargo hub will handle up to 20 lakh tonnes of cargo annually. Making it a major air freight node in South Asia.

The development reflects India’s focus on creating world-class infrastructure to attract global investors and enhance ease of doing business. It also reinforces the government’s commitment to transforming Uttar Pradesh into a logistics hub by promoting industrial development and creating employment opportunities.

Looking Ahead: A Catalyst for Economic Growth

Jewar’s mega cargo hub is not just an infrastructure project. It is a strategic catalyst for regional and national economic growth. By streamlining freight movement and enabling faster cargo turnaround, the hub will reduce logistics costs and boost trade competitiveness.

With modern facilities, seamless transport integration. And proximity to industrial corridors, the hub will empower businesses to expand their global footprint. As India steps into a new era of logistics excellence, Jewar’s cargo hub will serve as a symbol of progress. Inovation, and economic resilience.
