In a landmark move that signals a powerful shift towards sustainable energy, AM Green, an Indian renewable energy company founded by the promoters of Greenko Group, has partnered with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. This strategic agreement aims to establish a comprehensive green energy supply chain that connects India with Northwestern Europe. By signing this memorandum of understanding (MoU), both entities have committed to supporting the global decarbonization agenda through the export and import of green fuels.

A Green Energy Corridor from India to Europe

AM Green plans to create a seamless value chain for green fuels such as green ammonia and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This corridor will facilitate the annual export of up to 1 million tonnes of green fuels from India to Europe. Importantly, the total value of this trade route is expected to approach $1 billion annually, demonstrating the scale and impact of this initiative.

The Port of Rotterdam, which currently handles around 13 percent of Europe’s total energy demand, plays a crucial role in this partnership. As Europe’s largest energy port and a significant hub for hydrogen carriers, Rotterdam offers strategic access to Northwest European industries looking to decarbonize. This makes the port an ideal entry point for importing green fuels from India.

Strong Infrastructure Backing from AM Green

AM Green has ambitious plans to expand its green ammonia production capacity to 5 million tonnes per year by 2030. This amount is equivalent to producing approximately 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen. To support this goal, the company will initially produce green fuels at its facility in Kakinada, located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The company will also work to develop a robust logistical framework for transporting these fuels to Europe. By ensuring a well-coordinated transport chain, AM Green will enable a reliable and efficient supply of green energy from India to the European market. This focus on infrastructure reflects the company’s commitment to quality, reliability, and sustainability.

Rotterdam Port’s Vision for Energy Transition

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has taken a proactive approach to become a leading international hub for renewable energy and green fuel imports. By forming this partnership with AM Green, the port is aligning itself with the European Union’s green energy objectives and broader climate goals.

According to the agreement, the port will provide support for the import, storage, and distribution of green fuels arriving from India. It will also contribute expertise and infrastructure to help optimize supply chain efficiency. As a result, this partnership has the potential to set a new benchmark for cross-continental green energy logistics.

Strategic and Economic Implications

This collaboration underscores India’s growing role in the global green hydrogen and green ammonia economy. With increasing global demand for renewable energy, the deal gives India an opportunity to establish itself as a key exporter of sustainable fuels. Simultaneously, European industries benefit by gaining access to clean energy sources essential for reducing carbon emissions.

From an economic perspective, the $1 billion corridor demonstrates the increasing commercial viability of green fuels. Both parties expect this partnership to catalyze further investments in renewable energy infrastructure and green technology. Additionally, this deal sends a clear message to global markets that green energy trade is not only environmentally crucial but also financially rewarding.

Paving the Way for a Cleaner Future

This agreement between AM Green and the Port of Rotterdam is more than just a trade pact—it represents a shared commitment to sustainability. By combining India’s production capabilities with Europe’s demand for clean fuels, the two partners are building a global bridge for green energy.

With production starting in Kakinada and plans extending through the end of this decade, the initiative lays a strong foundation for future collaborations. As green fuel corridors become central to international climate strategies, this partnership stands out as a timely and transformative development.
